A hobby a day keeps the doldrums away. ~ Phyllis Mcginley

The sock bug has struck again. I think it’s because the beastly heat has gone (finally!) and the cool weather has turned my thoughts to how much I love wearing my hand knit socks.

I finished my Pink Clouds socks:

Pink Clouds Socks

What: Pink Clouds Socks
Yarn: 2 skeins of Claudia Handpainted Yarn in Pink Cloud
Needles: size 1, Knit Picks dpn’s
Pattern: Basic stockinette socks with 1 1/2″ of 2×2 ribbing on the cuff and an eye of partridge heel

Date started: 5/8/07

Date finished: 9/9/07
Lesson Learned: Pull Kitchener tight as you go, not when you’re finished.

Destination: my feet!

Thank you to the bloggers who warned about the short yardage on this yarn. I knit short socks and was left with this much yarn:

I’ve read rave reviews of this yarn and I’m kind of puzzled. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it (it’s soft, the colors are nice, it was a pleasure to knit, etc.), but it just didn’t make my skirt fly up. I would knit with it again, but it goes on my ‘just another sock yarn’ list.

I’m going to start another pair of stockinette socks soon.  I just have to decide which yarn to use.

I’m with ya on Claudias – s’alright but didn’t wow as much as I thought it would. I’m like that with some of the STR’s too. My fav to date is Scout’s (wears the best and vibrant colots) and some local hand dyed stuff.

  2. Don’t ya just love the Eye of Partridge heel? It’s so purdy!

  3. Very nice anklets! The heel looks very pretty. I don’t think I’ve ever knit with a yarn that made my skirt fly up, put I’m far from having tried it all! ;o) I did however go crazy about some colorways.

  4. Pretty socks.

I’ve never tried Claudia yarn and probably never will after seeing the tiny balls you had left over after knitting a short cuff.

  5. I love those colors – very appropriate even when Spring comes around & its still cool outside! It must be in the air because I’ve been on a sock kick myself (no pun intended?)

  6. Cute socks. Claudia’s good but not one that’s a must knit with for me. I get it if I like the colors. I’m knitting with 2 skeins right now and I have a really long cuff on my socks and was able to finish a whole sock before needing the second skein. I’m wondering where this shortage is happening? I only have size 6 feet though.

  7. What cute socks! I just love those heels and such happy cheery colors! 🙂
