A dog owns nothing, yet is seldom dissatisfied. ~ Irish Proverb

Thank you to everyone who took the time to send a comment and/or email in response to my last post. All of your kind words were very comforting and I appreciate each word and the time it took to send them.

I also want to thank the people who emailed to ask me if I was okay (since I’m not posting much anymore). I am okay. The lack of posting is due to a lack of time and nothing else. My life has become very busy lately and knitting time is rare. I usually only knit on the weekend. The lack of knitting has led to the lack of blogging.

I must apologize for this being a blog of doom and gloom this year. It seems like 2007 is throwing everything it has at me and I’m afraid that it’s not stopping anytime soon.

This morning, Samantha was diagnosed with degenerative myelopathy. Long time blog readers may remember that I’ve been down this road before and that this road doesn’t have a happy ending.

I don’t think there’s a good side to this, but I am grateful for two things: I am grateful that Max and Sam did not have the disease at the same time. And, I’m grateful that the disease didn’t show itself in Samantha until her later years.

Other than that, this just sucks. But, I know what we’re facing (which I didn’t know when Max and I walked this road) and I’m ready to take it on. Mostly, I’m just going to continue being the best damn dog mom I can.

Here’s a recent picture of Sam and her bunny:

Shortly after I took this picture, Sam eviscerated the poor bunny, but we don’t need to talk about that, do we? 🙂

  1. We have the same disembowling hobby at our house. lol. And I totally agree with you about 2007. I can’t wait to kiss this year goodbye. Hugs to you and Sam.

  2. Such sad news, again. That bunny had it coming – Sam should be the ONLY cute fluffly lovable thing alive 😉

  3. My heart goes out to you! Some friends of mine went through that with their five year old female German Shepherd a few years ago and I know it’s just a horrible disease. We have two male GSDs, a five year old named McCleod (whose basically my husband’s dog),and a ten year old named Max (my boy!) Naturally reading about your Max had me in tears. I’m so sorry you’re having to go through this again. 2007 has kind of sucked for our household this year too.

It sounds like you’ve given all of your pets a good, loving home and the best possible care. They’re lucky to have found their way into your home. I’ll be thinking about you and Samantha and wishing you the best.

  4. Oh my god! Not again! This may be common with GS, but what are the odds that you get to have two with this disease? I’m sooo very sorry for Sam and you. I’m glad that you are just busy, nothing else, because I was wondering about your infrequent blog psots as well. Wish you all the best!

  5. I am so sorry to hear about Samantha. (((Hugs)))

  6. Me too….XXX’s ‘n OOO’s.

  7. Here’s hoping that your 2008 is the perfect antidote to 2007. I’m sorry about Sam – it’s so hard to watch the furry ones get old.

  8. Oh – I have 4 dogs & they have my heart completely – just like your “fur babies” have yours. I’m sending you my HUGS! Your babies are so blessed to have you to take care of them!

  9. I’m so sorry about Samantha. Sending you a big *hug*.

  10. Well, crap! I just don’t know what to say. I’m so, so sorry. At least, like you said, Sam and Max didn’t have this at the same time, but still…..:-(

Sam is so blessed to have you as her mom. At least she’s not somebody’s junkyard guard dog, forced to endure the pain at the end of a chain somewhere. She is very blessed in that she has a warm home, her very own toys, loving siblings, and a loving mom.

  11. I am so sorry about Sam!
